Two things I appreciate/interest me about the Thai Forest tradition of Theravada Buddhism: 1) that the ideal "teacher" is not a guru or someone to be obeyed, but a "noble friend," who is interested in one’s well-being and 2) that even those who are considered enlightened (by their observers) observe the training rules and boundaries practiced by the newest members of the order.
